Given the fact that societys current obsession with designer espresso beverages kind of flies in the face of whats happening to many of us economically, its a wonder that more people dont have espresso and cappuccino makers of their own; although the initial investment may be a bit steep depending on the grade and brand chosen, it quickly pays off when $5 daily beverages are eliminated as a result.  Some good fair-trade beans, a few rounds of trial-and-error and a smidge of luck can turn almost any of us into a barista of the highest caliber.

When it seemed like everyone was outfitting their kitchens with granite countertops and Sub-Zero refrigerators, Pam Kueber was on the hunt for steel cabinets.

Ten years ago, Kueber and her husband bought a 1951 ranch house in Lenox, Massachusetts, with ugly plastic tiles in the bathroom and a 1970s kitchen. But rather than bring the house up to date, she wanted to take it back to its mid-20th-century character.

A communications professional with a degree in journalism, she put her reporting skills to work on ferreting out sources of vintage materials to renovate her midcentury home.
